A Look at R. Harold Zook’s Unique Architecture

Betty Green, CAF docent, author of Zook:A Look at R. Harold Zook’s Unique Architecture

R. Harold Zook was a prolific architect in the Chicago area during the early-20th century. His designs include the St. Charles City Hall, the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge, and hundreds of other structures, including nearly 50 residences in his hometown of Hinsdale. Green provides an overview of Zook’s work, characterized by patterned brickwork with stone insertions, spider web-windows, and wrought iron hardware and light fixtures along with undulating, multi-layered cedar shake roofs.
